🎨 The candy colours are a nod to the original livery worn by the XPTs when they were introduced in 1982. Built in Australia by Comeng, they replaced locomotive‑hauled carriages dating back to the 1930s and set a new benchmark for comfort and speed.
🚅 Capable of 160 km/h, the XPT cut hours off regional journeys and introduced smoother rides, reclining seats, buffet cars, and a modern passenger experience that represented a revolution in passenger travel in NSW.
🚆 The two power cars, now named “The City of Sydney” and “The City of Grafton”, and six carriages have been renewed as part of the $40.3 million, five year XPT refurbishment program – a significant investment in these iconic Australian-made sets.
🤩 Following today’s initial service to Grafton, this beautifully restored set will continue operating across the network as part of regular XPT services. Keep an eye out – you might spot this iconic train connecting communities across NSW!“.
